I See You

Do you feel seen?

Not sure what I mean by that?  Let's get into it ... 

Have you ever heard a friend, family member or colleague say any of the following to you?

You'd love this!

You'd hate that!

You're so great at ______!  Why aren't you doing more of that?

You should get a job as a ______.

That's not you.  You'd be so much better at ______.

You'd be so much happier if ______.

Then, you leave that conversation, shaking your head, thinking:

You don't know me at all.

And there you are wishing for someone who'd understand ...

Someone who'd get it ...

Someone who'd see you for who you TRULY ARE ... 

Here's the thing ... Often, people see what they want to see.

And that's, to say the least, frustrating.

Trust me, I understand.

One of the things we want most in life is to be seen, heard and appreciated for who we TRULY ARE.

That's why I love the movie Avatar so much.  One of the main themes of the movie can be summed up in one sentence:

I SEE YOU.

It's a greeting used in the movie's fictional world of Pandora.  But it's so much more than a standard cordial acknowledgement.

It means truly seeing into someone’s soul with an open heart and mind, and it fosters an understanding of how connected we are.

Imagine being seen like that.  Because you can be.

I've been and continue to be on a quest to be and be seen as my truest, best self and, after nearly 54 years on this big, blue marble called Earth, I'm feeling seen and heard for who I TRULY AM.

So, I can tell you in all honesty, when you have the courage to keep showing the world your true self, you'll find your people--the ones who'll not only see, hear and acknowledge you, they'll also celebrate you.
